T๐ซ๐๐ฏ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฌ๐ข๐ง๐ is probably one of the best decisions I made (besides getting Cooper) but what does it take to be a traveler?โฃ
โฃ
1๏ธโฃ Having your RN in the state you would like to practice in. If you do not live in a compact state and want to go to for example California, apply for the license sooner then later. A California license can take from 3-5 months.โฃ
โฃ
2๏ธโฃ Have at least 2 years experience in your speciality. Once you feel comfortable on your own in the unit, then you know youโre ready to travel.โฃ
โฃ
3๏ธโฃStart talking to companies. Reach out to your fellow nurses and see if they have any recommendations. Make sure to talk to more then one company. Not all companies will have the locations, the benefits, or the pay you want.โฃ You have to shop around.
โฃ
4๏ธโฃKnow whatโs important to you! Are you traveling because you wanna explore the country? Are you trying because you want to make more money? Once you know the reason you are traveling it will make it easier to decide where to go. Understand that if you have your heart set on a particular location, you may not the high pay rate you are looking for. โฃ
โฃ
5๏ธโฃ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐! I always tell people that are on the fence about being a traveler to just do one assignment. Take an assignment closer to home to see if it suits you. Thatโs what I did for my first assignment. If you end up hating it you can always go back home. โฃ
โฃ
In the end ๐ช๐ตโ๐ด ๐ข ๐ฑ๐ฆ๐ณ๐ด๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ข๐ญ ๐ฅ๐ฆ๐ค๐ช๐ด๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ to know if you are ready to travel. Itโs a big risk with a big reward. If you have any question feel free to reach out in the comments and I can give you some of my recruiters numbers and tips.โฃ
