Echo Park Lake

Once a reservoir for drinking in the 1800s, Echo Park Lake is now used as a drainage system for stormwater and a beautiful park. This central LA neighborhood is somewhat known as a hipster part of town. And what’s more hipster then riding a swan on a lake! I brought fellow traveler, Gretchen, along for the awesome company and her pedal power.

BUT FIRST, LUNCH

I picked up Gretchen and we went to Larchmont Bungalow Cafe for lunch. It was 3 minutes to the park and had a lot of options to choose from. There is a parking lot, but limited space. Street parking is most likely your best option. It was a beautiful day and the outdoor area was huge. I had a tempeh cobb salad and Gretchen had the avocado toast. I would highly recommend this place. Check out the menu for Larchmont Bungalow Cafe

Echo Park Lake- SWANS!

After lunch, put in your GPS, 751 Echo Park Ave, and find street parking. There parking is metered all along the park. There is no fee to enter the park. There however is a fee to rent the swans. You rent the swans at the boathouse. It is $11 a person per hour. A swan can fit up to 5 people, while only 2 need to pedal. We only rented them for an hour. It was fun, relaxing, and we have a great view of downtown.

WORTH IT? YES

If you have an afternoon free on a beautiful day, I’d say check this out. It was a simple fun activity to start a day off.

My name is Sara. I’m a ER nurse from Florida that is currently working as a travel nurse. I love to travel (like every millennial my age). I started traveling around the age of 23. I was dating a guy at the time that showed me how easy it was to travel. I had never thought that I could be able to travel at such a young age. I am lucky that I am a nurse and able to afford to and given the time to travel.
