I’m officially done with southern Oregon and have moved on to sunny LA! Now you may be asking what funemployment is?!?
Funemployment is the time off in between contracts. You can take this time to go on vacation, go back home, or just do nothing and relax!
I couldn’t find an assignment with the start date in LA I wanted, so I had to take a later start date. This meant I have 2 weeks off! I have not had any time off where I didn’t need to worry about work or have anything planned since I started traveling. It so happens that my 30th birthday is between this break so it just felt right to do this break.
First Things First, GTL- GYM, TARGET, LAUNDRY

The first thing I do when I moved is unpacking, then I find the target and gym. Sometimes as a traveler, it is hard to have a gym and stay in shape. I find that CrossFit works for me. Most gyms do monthly plans with no added fees. This makes it easy to stop your membership when you are getting ready to move.

My Crossfit gym is CrossFit Dark Horse. It’s $200 for unlimited. It is the average price for CrossFit. I’m already in love with this gym. They are very friendly and helpful. Most gyms do a free class, so give it a try!!
TIME TO EXPLORE
Farah Day
The whole reason I moved to LA was to be closer to my BFF, Farah. We have been friends since I was 18. I told her I’d travel to come to LA and it’d already been a year. I’m already on the west coast, so it just seemed like the right time. We walked around my neighborhood, Sherman Oaks. We had ice cream, ate some more, and went to a happy hour. It was a perfect way to spend a Saturday.
Santa Monica Pier

Another traveler from Medford moved here around the same time as me, Taylor. He is on assignment in Santa Monica. It seemed like the perfect time to go visit him. We first got Chick-fil-a (it’s a southern thing) and then ubered to the pier. The pier is free. There are restaurants and tourist shops along each side. There are also some rides at Pacific Park. We decided the ferris wheel seemed worth the $10. and…… IT WAS!!. You go around 5/6 times but it’s not slow. We got some great pictures. After we sit on the beach and watched the sunset. Getty Villa

I had met a guy on Hinge and the date went well so he asked me on a second date. He took me to the Getty Villa. It is free to go but you have to make reservations to get in. Parking is also $20. Get there early so that it is not as crowded. It was a beautiful house with great Greek and Roman artifacts. For more information, click here.

Neptune’s Net

After the Getty Villa, I wanted to try this restaurant in Malibu since we were already there. I had read it was a no-fuss, unique place with great seafood. I got the seafood platter for $36 and Nik got the calamari platter for $12.
I learned while talking to a Canadian couple eating next to us that this was a favorite of bikers and featured in movies ie: The Fast and the Furious, Point Break, Losin’ It, Iron Man 3, and Gossip Girl.

LA Zoo

On Tuesday I had planned to go on a date to the zoo from Bumble. He was lame, but at least I made time for the zoo. Admission is $22 and opens from 10am-5pm. During the holidays they have zoo lights after 6pm for $12-$16 depending on the night. They had a new baby giraffe, which you can see I was obsessed with.

This zoo did not live up to what I thought the LA Zoo would be. It’s the 2nd largest city in the country. I thought the zoo would be amazing. I was told because the San Diego Zoo is so close that the LA Zoo isn’t as big. I did enjoy my time, but if you’re not a fan of zoos, don’t go. For more information, click here.

Malibu- Point Dume
Casey, who I met on my Houston assignment, came to visit me during my first week. We eat and drink for the 2 days he was here. One fun thing we did together was going to Point Dume. Its a super easy hike, in and out 1.4 miles, according to alltrails. We didn’t do the full trail because once we had that view we didn’t want to go anywhere else. Casey’s friend Austin tagged along and we both brought our dogs. Definitely worth it for the views.

Rockets Game

The same guy that took me to the Getty Villa, took me to a Clippers Vs Rockets game on Friday. I told him I was a huge Houston Rocket’s fan and he got us 9th-row tickets!! The game was at the Staples Center. The lakers, clippers, and the kings play here. If you are in LA, I would say if one of them is playing to go see it inside. The Staples Center is huge. I had so much fun, besides my date telling be it “wouldn’t work out” as we walked to the car. You win some you lose some. But I got to go to Rockets game, so I won.

Thanks for reading and till next time,
